Week 39: A Shower Of Blessings... More Like A Waterfall
Wooooow was this week so crazy. We had been pretty down with the amount of work and the fact that we are suffering to work in our multiple areas but we saw a waterfall of blessing. God really saw us struggling and blessed us with 11 yes 11 people to teach. Sadly not all will enter the waters of baptism but maybe all they need is to start their journey in the gospel. Heres a little but about each.
Gabriel: we met last sunday ( hes mentioned in my last email ) we had a great lesson with him about the restoration and Joseph smith and he asked so many good questions and was really intrested. He almost had a heart attack when we told him theres a gospel library app and almost died when we told him he could read in the boom of mormon in English ( fun fact he was born in Wisconsin). He likes to speak in English but right now instead of struggling with spanish I am having a hard time remembering english...oops hehe. But since we are working 3 ( basically 5 ) areas we werent able to attend church in monterrico where he lives so he literally took a taxi from monterrico to Perico so he could attend church with us. We have plans to invite him to be baptized this week so pray that he accepts.
Hugo: He has been coming to church for about 3 weeks and is dating a member he has a lot of interest in the church and since his girlfriend only wants to marry a member he is determined to convert jajaj. But he has so much potential but its hard to contact him during the week. He loves the sacrament and really enjoyed the testimony meeting on sunday. Pray that he too accepts a baptism date too jajaja.
Lara: sweet little lara is 11 and is the niece of our bishop she has come to church twice but her parents dont want us to visit the house but she has permission to meet with us anywhere but in the house. We had such a spirit fuilled lesson in sunday with her and the family of our bishop and wow it was just wow top 5 lessons of the mission for sure. Although she is super shy ans timid she is amazing and has become good friends with lots of the young women already she has a very strong desire to learn.
Ok heres for the rest of our 11 people. We have been pretty annoyed because about 4 times a day we recieve a reference from our facebook pages run by the church for people that live in an area called Palpala aka the area of our DL and im not kidding when i say 4 times a day. But on friday and Saturday we recieved 8 references and we were able to contact every single one. One guy even told us right of the bat that he wants to be baptized so yeah. We have been extremely blessed because working all these areas is tiring and we had been lacking the excitement of it all but now we are on a roll.
On Friday it was about 40 degrees celcus and we were working in Monterrico and a little bit about this area is that its all farms and this area consists of three "neighborhoods" that are each 30 minutes apart by colectivo so we decided to visit these areas big mistake. It was hot like burning hot, there was no shade, and to make matters worse swarms of mosquitos ate us alive and there was no return colectivo. We ended up getting stuck in an area called 25 de mayo and we had no way to get home. It was about 7:30 and our apartment which is in Perico was about a 40-50 minute drive and we were in the middle of no where and i mean it there was nothing. But luckly I followed the spirit by jockingly sticking my thumb out at the passing cars and one stopped ( Ok normally I wouldnt do this but everyone here is a taxi driver so...) I was shocked and it didnt really pass my mind or the mind of my companion to not get in the car so we did. He was cool and dropped us off at an actual taxi stop.
Miracles are happening all around us every day and we have been so incredibly blessed. For a few months I have felt pretty bad about the amount of success I was seeing in my mission because we have a "rule" that we should all be baptizing every month but it hasnt been happening for me. Everytime I see a our weekly videos and the pictures of the baptism I felt bad and unsuccessful but something I have been learning is that my success in the mission doesnt amount to the number of baptisms I have sure it feels amazing to see your friend be baptized and to see the change that it brings into their lives but I took a look at the past 8-9 months and have been thankful to see success in the small things. Even if it was just planting the seed of the gospel in someone who wasnt super interested, giving a pamphlet to a taxi driver or helping an inactive family come back to the church. These small little things are miracles. God is working everyday so that more of his children find the truth and come to know him. I have been so happy in my mission since I have learned that my success isnt measured by the number of baptisms i have but its by who I help be touched by the gospel even if its one small interaction. These small interacctions were put in my way for a reason and these small interactions will one day lead to a big event in someones lives. I am thankful to have been able to reflect on my last 8-9 months in the mission and to see that I am successful and that the gospel has touched the lives of many thanks to the lord guiding me.
Anyways thats my little testimony this week jajaj just thought i would share.
Los amo a todos
